Credit Retrieval

Classes: April 1 thru May 16, Mon & Thurs, 2:30-4:00 p.m. on the WHS campus

  • Classroom assignments will be posted at the WHS Main Office by the afternoon of Friday, March 29.
  • Classes do not run during spring break, April 4 - 8.
    Course information is subject to change.  
  • Classes are offered on a first come, first served basis and may be canceled due to low enrollment.


Step #1: Counselor Recommendation

Students must receive a course recommendation from his or her counselor. As Credit Retrieval classes are taught by different teachers in different classrooms, students can register for ONE Credit Retrieval class.

  • The $100 Credit Retrieval course fee will be waived if the class is completed on time with a passing grade.
    • In the event these requirements are not met, the $100 fee will be added to the student's account May 17, 2019.
    • The $100 fee is not due upon registration.

Mathematics

CATEGORY: MATHEMATICS

  • The $100 Credit Retrieval course fee will be waived if the class is completed on time with a passing grade.

Credit Retrieval Algebra 1  - .5 Credit/$100.00*

 

This course is for students who did not successfully complete Algebra 1. Students will study solving linear equations and inequalities, functions, linear functions, systems of equations and complete online assessments.

Credit Retrieval Algebra 2 - .5 Credit/$100.00*

This course is for students who did not successfully complete Algebra 2. Students will expand their understanding of number systems to include complex numbers and will grow more proficient in their use of algebraic techniques. This course focuses on the study of functions: linear, quadratic, exponential, logarithmic, square root, cubic, and those involving inverse variation. Other topics that will be studied are combinations and permutations, probability, binomial theorem, measures of variability, and geometric and arithmetic sequences and series.

Credit Retrieval Geometry - .5 Credit/$100.00*

This course is for students who did not successfully complete 10th grade Geometry. This is the second course in the high school math sequence following Algebra 1. Students will formalize their reasoning skills to write proofs built on definitions, axioms, and theorems. Students will study parallel and perpendicular lines, triangle properties, quadrilateral properties, and properties of other polygons and circles. Other topics that will be studied are similar and congruent figures, right triangle trigonometry, coordinate geometry, geometric transformations, area, surface area, and volume of three-dimensional figures.

English

CATEGORY: ENGLISH

Credit Retrieval English 9, 10, 11, or 12 - .5 Credit/$100.00*

This course is for students who did not successfully complete English 9, 10, 11 or 12.  Emphasis is on strengthening students' reading, writing, communication and critical thinking skills presented in English 9 through 12.  The standards-based curriculum includes activities that develop vocabulary, comprehension and fluency skills using fiction and nonfiction texts.  Students learn to write in response to on-demand prompts and communicate effectively in a variety of forms for different audiences. 

Social Studies

CATEGORY: SOCIAL STUDIES

  • The $100 Credit Retrieval course fee will be waived if the class is completed on time with a passing grade.

Credit Retrieval World History  - .5 Credit/$100.00*

This course is for students who did not successfully complete Social Studies 9 or World History 9 and reviews the study of human interactions and their consequences throughout history.

Credit Retrieval U.S. History - .5 Credit/$100.00*

Review the U.S. Constitution and then use that knowledge as a framework to discuss the current political, social, and economic events that shape our world. Successful completion of this course may meet the graduation requirement.

Credit Retrieval Contemporary Issues - .5 Credit/$100.00*

Review the underlying principles upon which local, state, and national government are based, the rights and responsibilities of being a citizen, the basic economic principles that drive local, state, and international economies and the history, principles, ideologies, and forces that shape the modern world.

Washington State History - For all first-time students/fee waived

This meets Washington State History requirement for Class of 2015 and beyond.

Washington State History course designed for students who have not had the opportunity to take this course required for graduation. Northshore School District offers this graduation requirement in 7th grade. Students who moved in to the district after 7th grade, or who failed it in 7th grade, will need to make up this course. Students study the geography, history and economics of Washington State and learn how Washington is influenced by and linked to Pacific Rim countries. (This course is not for students who did not successfully complete Washington State History - .5 Credit/$100.00* below.)

Credit Retrieval Washington State History - .5 Credit/$100.00* - for students who previously took and failed Washington State History

This meets Washington State History requirement for Class of 2015 and beyond.  

This course is for students who did not successfully complete Washington State History. This course fulfills the required Washington State history and government requirement.  Students study the geography, history and economics of Washington State and learn how Washington is influenced by and linked to Pacific Rim countries.

Science

Credit Retrieval Physical Science - .5 Credit/$100.00*

Online and in class inquiry-based science class.  Students are introduced to the fundamentals of physics and chemistry through a series of experiments and activities.

Credit Retrieval Biology - .5 Credit/$100.00*

Online and in class inquiry-based science class.  Biology is an experimental science that studies how plants, animals, and microorganisms fit into the world around us. Students learn about: (a) the relationships of individuals in populations and ecosystems; (b) characteristics of organisms; (c) reproduction, heredity and how humans fit into the world; and (d) application of the scientific method.

Other 3rd year Science - .5 Credit/$100.00*

Other 3rd year science course based upon counselor recommendation and enrollment.
