Ceremony Production Day
Tuesday, June 9

Virtual Commencement Ceremony
Tuesday, June 16, 3:30 p.m

We are pleased to announce graduation plans are coming together for the Class of 2020!  Per Dr. Reid's May 4th announcement, "In reviewing the governor's phased approach for reopening the State, it is clear that we are a ways from safely gathering groups of students, staff and families. After taking this new information into account along with multiple meetings with student leadership, principals and other district staff, and many communications from parents and guardians, I am able to share plans for Northshore’s Class of 2020’s graduations.

  • We will maintain the original dates/times for high school graduation (WHS, June 16, 3:30 p.m.).
  • On those dates, we will provide a virtual graduation experience.
  • A committee made of students, staff and administrators from all high schools met to determine what elements of a graduation ceremony are important to include in the virtual experience with the understanding that each would have slight variations to reflect each school.
  • And, with the virtual graduations, there is also an understanding that schools will plan an activity/event of their choosing to celebrate seniors if/when it is safe to do so.
  • You can share your ideas for a later celebration experience using this link."

Traditionally, WHS caps and gowns are distributed during the first week of June. However, to accommodate the production of the virtual Commencement Ceremony, WHS caps and gowns (and announcements for those that had pre-ordered in the fall) will be distributed early this year, on Thursday, May 21 on the WHS campus. This early distribution will provide time  to press gowns so they are camera-ready for the Tuesday, June 9 Production Day when diploma covers will be distributed and individual senior photos will be taken for the virtual ceremony. Those who have not ordered caps, gowns, tassels, and stoles should do so by May 20 so the items can be included at the May 21 distribution*.

The May 21 distribution will be a drive-through event based on designated senior arrival times starting at the WHS Bus Zone off NE 195th Street:

A-Bi 12:00-12:30 Bl-De 12:30-1:00 Di-G 1:00-1:30 H-J 1:30-2:00
K-Mc 2:00-2:30 Me-P 2:30-3:00 R-S 3:00-3:30 T-Z 3:30-4:00

AP exam students who are testing on May 21 can come anytime during the distribution window. If due to travel (or some other essential reason) your senior cannot make it to the designated pick up window on May 21, please complete this Request for an Alternate Pick Up Plan.

This is not the day for seniors to pick up their other personal belongings or drop off any items.  There will be another day designated for that in June.

Students/families will need to stay in their cars and will be handed items by staff (who will be wearing masks and gloves and practicing social distancing). Students/families will come onto campus in their cars.

In addition to this initial pick up of the caps and gowns, WHS, in coordination with Jostens, is planning aspects of graduation on our campus scheduled for Tuesday, June 9. This virtual  production day will include distribution of diploma covers and taking an individual senior photograph, and, while restricted, allows for students to be on campus one more time. Naturally, this will all take place within social distancing protocols. As mentioned above, more details to come.

Thank you for your patience as we continue to navigate our way through this unchartered territory, all while keeping the Class of 2020's best interest in our hearts, along with the health and safety of our entire learning community.
