Welcome Young Artists!
I'm very excited to get to know you this school year. 2017-2018 is my first year to the North Shore School District and I'm excited to be a Falcon! Previously I was working in Shanghai, China at the Shanghai American School. Before Shanghai, I was in Seoul Korea working at the Korean International School but my humble beginnings began in Las Vegas, where I worked at a small high school called Global Community HS. As you can probably guess, I LOVE to travel and see as many cool things as possible and meet as many interesting people as I can and of course be inspired by the rich diversity in our world. What brought me to WA state was a desire to be close to family. I have two little daughters and a step-son who is going into 9th grade. My husband and I wanted them to get a chance to play in the beautiful Pacific Northwest and hang out with grandparents, aunts & uncles and cousins.
As an art teacher, I believe through art making you can improve your mind and character. The creative process: Brainstorming, Planning, Experimenting, Creating and Reflecting, is a powerful process that can be applied to many areas of life, not just art. The more you get a chance to practice going through it, the more confident you'll become in developing your own ideas. This skill will serve you well in your future career whether you become an innovator, inventor, scientist or whatever strange new career will be awaiting you upon graduation because essentially, the creative process is a form of problem solving!
I like to try and create a balance between teaching skills and allowing you, my young artists, to decide how to apply those skills to create your own unique, individual outcomes. I believe that drawing skills and art creation can be learned and is not inherently a talent bestowed upon a select few. With practice, kindness to yourself, and perseverance, anyone can learn how to draw and create art.
Well- enough from me for now. I can't wait to meet you all and begin our journey together this year!
